Good News for First-Time Home Buyers

The Housing Bill signed last week by President Bush provides for a first-time homebuyer tax credit of 10% of the property price, up to $7,500. The tax break is available to first-time homebuyers who have or will purchase homes between April 9, 2008, and July 1, 2009. But there is more than one reason why you should be excited about your first home purchase.

 

First, housing is already more affordable than at the 2006 market high. Second, there's a great variety of homes on the market. Finally, we have the tax break. Just one more reason why it's a great time to get in the housing market if you're a first-time buyer! And for all buyers is the good news that Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac or FHA can now purchase loans up to the higher level of  115 percent of the local median home price, up to $625,500. The current, temporary maximum was set to expire at the end of the year.
