Menards protest ends peacefully
An immigration protest ended peacefully after police dispersed roughly fifty people from a North Side Menards.
The group Centro Sin Fronteras, an immigration rights group whose Spanish name translates roughly to "Center Without Frontiers," held the protest in front of the Menard's at 2601 N. Clybourn Ave. today shortly after noon.
The group was protesting Menards for their sponsorship of "Lou Dobbs Tonight," a news commentary show on CNN, said Roberto Lopez of Centro Sin Fronteras.
Particularly offensive, said Lopez, was Dobbs's claim that undocumented Latino immigrants are to blame for soaring
rates of leprosy in the US.
Requests by Centro Sin Fronteras for a meeting with Menards to discuss these issues were ignored, according to Lopez. "They are not interested in listening to the concerns of the Latino community," he said. "We want them to pull their ads from CNN, from the Lou Dobbs Show."
A spokesman for Menards had no comment.
