A 28-year-old man was found fatally shot on a South Side street Monday night, police said.

Deonne Gholston, of the 7700 block of South Maryland Avenue,  was discovered by police in the 9700 block of South Woodlawn Avenue Monday around 8:30 p.m., Chicago Police spokesman Marcel Bright said.

Bright said officers patrolling the area heard several gunshots and afterward discovered Gholston lying dead on the street. Bright said Gholston had been shot in the head.

Witnesses reported seeing two men wearing dark clothes fleeing southbound on Woodlawn Avenue, but did not see the shooting, Bright said.
