Starting next week, Chicago will roll out new street-sweeping signs that are color-coded to tell motorists when parking bans are in effect.

The signs, in orange, green, blue, red and yellow, correspond to days of the week. They are designed to "gain attention and to coordinate with the days of the week," says Matthew Smith, spokesman for the city's Streets and Sanitation Department.

Smith says the department is hoping the signs will not only help people avoid tickets, but make the street-sweeping process more efficient.

Smith describes the signs as "Andy Warhol-like."

"The color scheme is nice," he says.

The color codes are as follows:
  • Monday -- Blue
  • Tuesday -- Red
  • Wednesday -- Yellow
  • Thursday -- Green
  • Friday -- Orange
Street sweeping runs from April 1 until the end of November.
